Formant maps
In speech, the continuous spectral changes resulting from co-articulation between vowels and consonants are sound-dependent. On this page the formant maps of the vowels are shown in the function of the place of articulation of the consonants in CVC elements. We present these formant maps for all Hungarian vowels in the function of the 6 articulation places of the consonants. The essential (strong or weak) co-articulation effects can be read from the curves of the formants. Where the formants are highly curved inside the vowel, there is a strong coarticulation effect and vice versa.
NOTE: Similar formant maps can also be generated for F1 and F2 using the interactive program under the Speech acoustics/TTF Converter window.
