Text-to-formant converter

We present a method that can determine formants from text (Text-to-Formants). Any Hungarian text (sequence of letters) can be typed into the interactive window and the program will display the sequence of speech sounds corresponding to the input and the corresponding F1 and F2 formant shapes as a function of time. This will be the so-called formant map of the typed sequence(word, sentence). The point is not to determine the Hz values of the formants, but to realize the characteristic formant movements within and between the speech sounds using a general statistical (HMM) model. With other words: to study the coarticulation in fluent speech. The formant maps do not show individual features, but rather language specific data. This program gives new opportunities for education and speech research.
